The FIRST Robotics Competition is an exciting, nationwide competition that challenges professionals and young people to

solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. The program is a life-changing, career-molding

experience-and a lot of fun. Since 1989, the FIRST Robotics Competition has grown from 28 teams involved

to over 1,300 today. Teams come from Canada, Brazil, the U.K., and almost every U.S. state. The competitions are

high-tech spectator sporting events, the result of lots of focused brainstorming, real-world teamwork, dedicated

mentoring, project timelines, and deadlines. Over a strict six-week period, teams create a robot from the

round up that is specifically designed to perform an original task that changes from year to year. The

excitement of US FIRST is going on all over the world. The FIRST Robotics Competition is about much more than the

mechanics of building a robot or winning a competitive event. It is about the partnership among people who are part of

the FIRST community and the impact on those who participate in FIRST programs with a united goal of achieving FIRST's mission.

FIRST's mission is to change the way young people regard science and technology and to inspire an appreciation for

the real-life rewards and career opportunities in these fields.
